1. Be consistent in writing dates.
2. Use either the day-month-year style: 22 Apr. 2009,
or the month-day-year style: Apr. 22, 2009
Use abbreviations for months in headings,
except for May, June and July;
see the list at 7.2 (MLA 263)
3. Spell out centuries in lower case; "the twentieth century".
Hyphenate centuries when they are used as adjectives
before nouns: "nineteenth-century thought"
